Darling (Ft. Missio) – Said The Sky

July 22, 2016

Said The Sky

From the very start this track wants to lift you up and put you in a good mood. With a whisper of wind and birdsong, the song fades in and a keyboard begins gently before the driving drum line enters. Said The Sky made this beautiful, bright-eyed, chirping song and it’s one of my favorites. The amount of cheerful wide-eyed whimsy in this song never fails to make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Gorgeous earnest male vocals contrast nicely with the pitched vocal samples as they sing the tale of the glory of new love through the eyes of a pair of ingenues. Trap drum rolls stutter like a too fast heartbeat or a caught breath; the sample of a laugh captures a frozen moment of surprised delight. This is a love song that makes you feel. Savor it.

Never Be Alone – TheFatRat

TheFatRat - Never Be Alone

I realize it’s been a week since I’ve last posted, but I’ve been kept rather busy lately and probably will be for the next week or so. So here’s a song to tide you over for a bit. This is not the newest song from TheFatRat, but it’s an excellent track and well worth your attention. Starting out with a sweet chiming, this song introduces its tune quietly, almost shyly, before bursting into euphoric house chords to back it up. All shyness is abandoned as the beat drops and various “Woo!”s and “Hey!”s punctuate pauses. The shyness returns when the vocals arrive, sweet, honest, and a little unsteady, a child’s voice. They declare that “No. You’ll never be alone!” It’s a song brimming over with sweetness and earnestness. Enjoy it.

Snowbound – Ahrix

Ahrix offers a chill song in several senses. Opening with the whisper of a cold wind, a drum roll ushers in swelling chords and a sweet treble line. Eventually the beat drops and it sounds old school; electro, trance, or techno rhythms and synths. The breakdown introduces strings before returning to the fast paced child-like joy. It’s a sweet and cheerful tune. Savor it.

If I Lose Myself (Win & Woo Remix) – Win & Woo vs One Republic

January 31, 2014

Win & Woo
Win and Woo decided to take on One Republic’s hit, “If I Lose Myself”, and see what they could make with it. The result is a magnificent remix, and one they were unwilling to call just a remix. So they labelled it part mashup, mashed with their original work, as well. Their pride is justified. This remix is glorious. They built up a fabulous synth hook to add to the vocal hooks, as well as crafting some truly beautiful more quiet interludes. Enjoy this one.

Suddenly Mashups. Everywhere. LXIX

January 24, 2014

It’s been too long. Far too long. But the time has come. It is now time. For mashups!

Doug Bogan will start us off with his mashup “Theater Kids”. This is one of the most enjoyable versions I’ve heard of MGMT’s “Kids” in ages plus you can dance to it! What’s there to say no to?

Next up, Troika takes on “September”, giving it a modern spin. This one is triumphant and has a great start. The intro is mostly vocal and when the synth line drops it feels like the night is starting out right. Enjoy it!

Now let’s get a little more intense with a track from Poppingmelons. With this beat, we can see just how intense B.o.B. can get. This song may take a little to get past its build but once it gets there, it pounds. This electro coupled with intense bass and a more spare, ominous beat with a hint of trap is the kind of song that crowds get sweaty to. Check it out.

Let’s chill out a bit. The Melker Project dropped this pretty little track the other day and it showcases his skills. He recreated Jay-Z’s beat instead of actually sampling it and then went to town. It’s chill and sweet. Give it a listen.

“Stay the Night” has been making the rounds and here’s DOSVEC‘s take on it. The trance house synths backing this make me very happy. The understated smoothness is gorgeous and really fills up the space of a room when the vocals drift away. Enjoy this one

Dave Edwards is rapidly becoming one of my favorite remix artists. His production is happy and always reminds me of summer fun. This remix has that fun production but also pulls from both Daft Punk and Avicii. How’s that for a creative remix? Check it out.

RAGE CANNON brings something epic to share in this song. Although this song is completely instrumental, it is in no way boring. RAGE CANNON draws from different sounds to keep it fresh; prog house, dutch house, electro, techno, and trance to name a few. Now this track may have been taken down, so if people want it gone, send me a message. In the meantime, give it a listen.

Trademark knows how to electrify a crowd. Opening with an incredible vocal hook from Avicii, Trademark then blows the song wide open with epic festial synths. The festival sound continues when the drop takes the song to a big room sound, relying on reverb. It’s huge and exciting. Enjoy it and have an awesome weekend!

JRMY – EEkoz

Soothing and chill. That’s the kind of music I’m feeling right now and EEkoz delivers with “JRMY”. Although this song is has a central rapid beat that sounds rather 808 based, this song is gentle and uses relaxed vocals and harmony. The song is relaxed and yet epic in its combination of slow, practically lazy vocals, and rapid, frenetic, backbeat. If you’re sleep deprived like me, then this is the perfect salve for the ears. Enjoy it.

Northern Lights – Jordan Krawitz

October 29, 2013

A shot of Northern Lights from Jim Henderson and Barcroft Media
Jordan Krawitz released this beautiful trance track last week and it is worth a listen. It’s entirely instrumental, no vocals. And that instrumental is amazing. I can’t imagine a better name for the song. “Northern Lights” fits the electronic sound and the amorphous shifting. While the song starts out with some significant bass and traditional build, it soon reaches a gentler section that I think could be a perfect backing to a prolonged exposure of the ever shifting aurora borealis. The hook is gorgeous, filled with soaring synths that fade in and out of focus and reverb. When they rise to the fore you can imagine lights coming into painful lines of clarity then fading and retreating as the music falls into echoes. The bass never returns and I think the track doesn’t need it. The gorgeous treble and midrange synths are where this song truly shines. Check it out!
