Suddenly Mashups. Everywhere. LXVI

June 21, 2013

How better to catch up with music I haven’t posted than with mashups? Since I have no answer, I better post the mashups. Without further ado…

Two weeks ago I posted a live mashup from D.veloped. Today I post another one because it’s better than most people’s studio arranged mashups. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I hate that Icona Pop song, “I Love It”; they’re better than that. But D.veloped can take this atrocious song and make it catchy and pleasing to hear. This is skill you have to check out!

I Love The Feeling (D.licious Live Edit) – D.veloped / Or from Facebook

Troika has tons of talent, so I thought I’d share another track of theirs. This one takes the chilled out sounds of Deadmau5 and Kaskade adds more recent music of a similar ilk. I missed the chilled out synths, and Troika scratches that itch. Give it a listen!

Piece Of Me (Troika Mashup) – Deadmau5 x Tom Budin x Kaskade x Zedd / Or from SoundCloud

Doug Bogan has been out of sight for a few months but a few weeks ago he proved that it was worth waiting. He combines beautiful prog house pop with the grimier side of EDM easily and everyone should be happy. Enjoy it!

I Could Be Alive – Doug Bogan / Or from SoundCloud

Foxfire dropped this gem a few weeks ago and I’ve been enjoying it ever since. By sampling the original and two remixes of a Kelly Clarkson song, Foxfire was able to set up a versatile soundscape with a unified sound. On top of that the Maroon 5 and Don Omar vocals stand out in exciting and pleasing ways. Check it out!

Stronger – Foxfire / Or from Facebook

Last month DOSVEC brought us this grimy and wobbly mashup. DOSVEC uses Zeds Dead remix of the Rolling Stones to create a stellar backing for B.o.B, lending a very intimidating, ominous backing to his sometimes playful lyrics. Give it a listen!

We Still In This Bitch (B.O.B. ft T.I. & Juicy J vs The Rolling Stones (Zeds Dead Mix) – DOSVEC / Or from Facebook

If you’re not a trap fan, skip this one. If you are, get ready for a crowd-pleaser. San Dalva gave this song a rather heavy trap backing without sacrificing the fast paced energy of “Express Yourself”. Enjoy it!

Came To Express Yourself (Kennedy Jones x Major Lazer) – San Dalva / Or from Facebook

Fareoh put together Lamar and Gaga with some of his own original content as a way to get fans excited for the release of his upcoming EP. The progressive dubstep track spends a lot of time with casual piano chords but crescendos into a faster wobbly hook. The simpler parts back the vocals easily and the more complicated parts are showcased as hooks. Check it out!

ID vs Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe – Fareoh vs Kendrick Lamar & Lady Gaga / Or from Facebook

KTHRSIS contacted me recently and encouraged me to check out some of his mashups and I’m glad I did. Although his mashups are made in the ADD style that Girl Talk and Super Mash Bros favor, he puts together some songs in incredible combinations. This track starts off with Phoenix’s “1901” backing some fun rap then progresses to Basshunter backing Ludacris then to Fort Minor’s version of “Sweet Child of Mine” backing the Offspring and Michael Jackson. The Basshunter section is amazing and this is a great dance mashup. Give it a listen!

Blame Cupid – KTHRSIS / Or from SoundCloud

And how could I not end with this one? KosherKittens put together this fun mashup. Combining Taylor Swift’s current hit with Biggie Smalls is hard to argue with. As is often an issue with KosherKittens, the quality is a little unequal between the two songs, likely because some acapellas are better than others. But the concept is gold and is catchy enough to listen to several times over. Enjoy it and have a great weekend!

Suddenly Mashups. Everywhere. LXIII

Friday. It means freedom. It means the end of the drudgery. It means a time of release. Here at PaperMashMusic we observe Friday by listening reverentially to mashups. Join us in our observation of this ancient holiday.

This day we celebrate for a long awaited song. Elocnep finally released a download for this funky smooth mashup of “Thrift Shop” and it is spectacular. Enjoy.

The Sly Fox Is Thrift Shopping Better Than He Ever Has – Elocnep / Or Download EP from Facebook

We give thanks with this Stylust Beats mashup. The funkiness is practically dirty with bass and it provides a energetic backing to the old school hip hop. Check it out!

Mashup-Germany shares this short mashup in contribution to the acknowledgement of the greatness of Friday. It is a good transition between funk and pop and the German rap gives it certain shine. Give it a listen.

Bilder im Kopf (Hör mal wer da hämmert) – Mashup-Germany / Or from SoundCloud

Reggae meets reggaeton in an inspired mashup from Jejah. The horns and shortened guitar echoes make quite the counterpoint to the rapid autotuned Spanish. Enjoy it.

Kuduro´s Darling (Don Omar feat. Lucenzo Vs Seeed) – Jejah

In another relaxing mashup worthy of Friday, Kosher Kittens sets rap to Modest Mouse. The slow guitar riff was turned into a beat by YouTube User JahiMakesBeats and Kosher Kittens takes full advantage of it. Check it out.

Screw Up at Large – Kosher Kittens / Or from SoundCloud

You know that song “I Love It”? I must confess that I don’t love it. But DJ Schmolli does such a good job mashing it up that I find it appropriate to appreciate Friday with. Give it a listen.

I Love Clarity – DJ Schmolli / Or from SoundCloud

It is time to end this ode to Friday, but that does not mean that our celebration will cease. 3lau put this track together awhile ago and recently decided to reassemble it more to his satisfaction. It’s rousing and danceable and every time that Krewella’s vocals rise to the fore, I am happy. Enjoy and have a great weekend.

Guilty Pleasure (3LAU Re-Edit) -Paris & Simo, Wolfgang Gartner, Coldplay feat. Krewella & Pendulum

Billy The Gent, Dillon Francis & Kito ft. Reija Lee – Bass of Hearts (5 & A Dime Bootleg)

January 24, 2013

And here we have a bit of Moombahton! We’ve heard about 5 & A Dime before on this site, but I must say that this is my favorite 5&AD track so far. I love moombahton, and I think it deserves far more recognition than it gets. Dillon Francis is one of the masters, and this mashup is pretty spot on; if I didn’t know the original tunes than I probably wouldn’t be able to tell it was a mashup at all. Check it out!

Suddenly Mashups. Everywhere. XXXXIV

January 13, 2012

Happy Friday folks! It’s a mashup sort of day and a day to celebrate. Winter finally came, two months late. I blame Al Gore. While not frolicking in the cold, pulling down storm windows, and cleaning up the snow that came in while pulling down the storm windows, I thought I’d share some awesome mashups.

Yoni was quite clever titling this mashup. I think I shall adopt the term “yearworm” from now on to mean a mashup of the top Top 40 music of a year. Yoni’s mashup is a bit bouncier than Earworm’s own. As usual, it is well produced. Enjoy!

Yoni’s 2011 Yearworm – Yoni

DOSVEC is starting the year off right with his first mashup of the year. It encourages dancing and uses Calvin Harris, which makes me happy on principle. It’s a very happy and catchy tune. Check it out!

Five (Mylo, FreeSol ft. Justin Timberlake & Calvin Harris vs Archie V) – DOSVEC / Or from Mediafire

Minnesota isn’t just a home for winter, a maker of dubstep, and a place to find lakes. In fact the dubstep producer also does mashups. Who knew? Probably lots of people, but now I do too. This one has a pretty hard and spartan beat to open before drawing in Dorrough and then Radiohead. The Radiohead lends a far more interesting ambience to the beat. Take a listen for yourself.

Ice Cream In Its Right Place (Radiohead/Dorrough Mash-Up) – Minnesota

Here’s another funky one from Daigo. While the Lupe hook doesn’t quite fit the beginning, the verses certainly do. The summer-y funky instrumental works with Lupe’s timbre and attitude perfectly. Enjoy!

Soul Superstar – Daigo

Mashup-Germany came out with two new songs today. You can always check it out for yourself now, but I’ll be sure to include the other track next week. This one hits my sweet tooth because of the reggae and reggaeton influences that Stilller blends into this one flawlessly. Check it out!

Got 2 luv lazy Michel Teló – Mashup-Germany

Yet again I have to say, I love DJ 21azy‘s choice in songs to work with. How can I say no to Jimmy Eat World? That’s right, I can’t. The rap is classic as well. DJ 21azy is just a connoisseur of the classics. Take a listen for yourself.

Just The Player’s Anthem – DJ 21azy

The Two Friends are at again with this Wiz and Two Door mashup. It starts out unbelievably chill and pretty. It eventually attains a house influenced hip hop beat that fits both rap and singing. It’s lovely. Enjoy!

When You Know (2F Mashup) – the Two Friends

Let’s pick up the pace a bit with this club themed mashup from Broomestix. Yeah it starts with “Lights” but then it also uses “Dirty Talk”. I like it. Definitely a track you should bump at your next party. Check it out.

Some Dirty Circus Sunshine (David Guetta/Avicii + Wolfgang Gartner + Wynter Gordon + Deadmau5) – Broomestix

And of course I saved the best for last. 3lau has two versions of this track but I highly prefer this one. Rihanna’s vocals have yet to tire me out and this progressive house beat is still hot. Together they just make sense. Listen for yourself and enjoy! Have a great weekend!

We Found House (3LAU Big Room Bootleg) – Basto feat Rihanna

Metele Bellaco – Munchi

August 9, 2011

It’s time for some more Moombahton. If you’ve found yourself annoyed the repetitive and simple synth lines in Moombahton, don’t bother with this one. This old track from Munchi has more latin influences in the making of it than some of the more electro oriented tracks I’ve posted. This track really gets e bobbing my head. Let’s see if it does the same for you.

Unleash The Fucking Moombah! (Crowd Control remix) – Dada Life

July 11, 2011

So I’ve been hearing a lot about Moombahton lately. When I first listened to it I was rather baffled. It really held no attraction for me. In fact I found it downright annoying. But I kept running across it so I wondered if people knew something I didn’t. Next time I came across something labeled Moombahton, I gave it a try. And this time I found a song I didn’t hate. It actually grew on me. What is Moombahton, some ask? Created by Dave Nada, it’s a step from reggaeton to electro. Slowed down slightly and given instrumentation of electro, tracks can range from only claiming the distinctive beat of reggaeton to others keeping more from the parent genre. I’m going to start posting tracks that I like from this genre and I’d like to know what you think. Try it out. I’ll be posting a few other tracks in the next week or two to give a little range to the genre. To start us off, here’s an excellent remix from Crowd Control that I first spotted on Earmilk. As I’ve said, it can be a little annoying on first go round. This song for instance, has quite a long intro that could bore you. But like electro tracks, this song builds to an interesting middle and end. Enjoy.
