Infinite High (Bee’s Knees Remix) – Panama Wedding

March 8, 2016

Bee's Knees

Panama Wedding’s vocals always sound energetic, but with a hint of hoarseness that makes me think they’re recovering from a loud and fun night of karaoke. When combined with tropical synths and melodies, these vocals practically carry a smile through the speakers. Bee’s Knees recognize this quality in their remix and work to enhance that mood. Their version speeds the song up just enough to give the song the liveliness to match the funky quality of the house background. They flirt with tropical house as well as disco house on this track and it’s a very good coupling. Enjoy it.

XTC (feat. Marti Ann) – Ferraz

January 11, 2016

When a song alludes to ecstasy, you know it has to either be a happy track or some kind of edgier, darker look at drug culture. This is definitely a happy track. Ferraz makes a cheerful and funky type of synthpop that always makes me smile. Marti Ann‘s soulful singing emphasizes the playful romance of the lyrics; his voice practically strokes us in the opening then jumps up high at the start of each chorus, singing, “You make me lose my mind!” Listen to this track and enjoy the sweetness!

Suddenly Mashups. Everywhere. LXX

January 9, 2015

A heart, love of music, edm at its best
Good lord! Has it really been a year since my last mashups post? Clearly this is sorely needed. And Friday is the perfect day for mashups – a time to hype up with pop music in a new fun format. Ready for the weekend? This should help.

Let’s start with something a bit ridiculous and party friendly! Titus Jones combined Avril Lavigne, Lesley Jones, a Cash Cash remix of Katy Perry, 50 Cent, and Spice Girls for to make a hyper-powered pop mashup. It’s beautiful, girly, and over the top in all the right ways. I would totally dance like a doofus to this one. What about you? Check it out!

Trademark also utilized a bit of Cash Cash in this lovely mashup. Trademark knows how to make a beautiful mashup, pulling together gorgeous female vocal hooks from several songs and placing them according to their differing moods to shape a song. All of this is coordinated while maintaining consistency with a gorgeous progressive house instrumental. Enjoy it.

Now let’s chill it out for a bit with a mashup from the Fabulous Beatmashers. This beat from Mr. Probz made the rounds this summer and while simple, it is really catchy and exudes a casual cool. Snoop Dogg’s West Coast rap style is a good fit for it and the samples from Fatboy Slim put it over the edge. Check it out.

Here’s another laid back mashup from Kosher Kittens. Combining Passion Pit with Milky Chance effortlessly, this is one of those mashups that just works. Guitar sample meets vocals. Give it a listen.

Next up, lobsterdust has a funky mashup for you. With a fun and funky instrumental from Alex Metric & Oliver, lobsterdust adds Trey Songz’s vocals with just the right combination of smoothness and attitude to fit. When sings his hook of “Na Na Na” it lines up perfectly with piano hook from the instrumental. Enjoy the sexiness.

Building upon a relaxed yet alert instrumental Mashup-Germany pulls together material from seven different tracks and adds instrumentation to even it all out. The snippets of Eminem and and Coldplay complement each other perfectly while the drama of the instrumental grows. Check it out!

One album this year that made me very happy was Porter Robinson’s. Apparently the The Hood Internet agreed. They brought Porter together with Beyoncé in their signature style of unlikely pairings that work better than you ever might have thought and make you start dreaming of impossible collaborations. Both Porter and Beyoncé put out albums that fly in the face of pop conventions, or at least ignore many of them, and they combine here beautifully. They both rise and fall an impressive range and that is lined up flawlessly for display here. Give it a listen!

BONUS: Here to help you celebrate the new year and wave farewell to the old is Mashup-Germany‘s mashup of 2014. 70 songs in six minutes, not bad. I hope your New Year is wonderful and your weekend is ushered into awesomeness with the discovery of some of these mashups. Enjoy and have a good one!

Happy (Lenno Remix) – Pharrell Williams

June 11, 2014

I’ve always found Pharrell Williams to be a rather hit or miss pop artist, and his single “Happy” never really grabbed me, maybe because I wasn’t happy when I first heard it, I don’t know. What I do know is that Lenno‘s remix of it is amazing and makes me very happy indeed. Filled with funk, electric guitar, hand claps, piano, and fun reverb, this remix exudes the atmosphere of a disco dance floor on a hot summer night. Not that it sounds like disco, but you get the idea. The electric guitar dances through scales as the keyboard keeps the chords progressing and the vocals smile slowly and widely at the audience. The only downside to this track is that I will now be actively unhappy whenever I hear the original instead of Lenno’s version. Enjoy it!

Volume 1: Nostalgia [Album] – CJ Trillo

November 11, 2013

Volume 1: Nostalgia artwork
Remember CJ Trillo? Formerly known as Sucka Free CJ? Well you should. He’s back with beautiful hip-hop and you need to listen. His album, “Volume 1: Nostalgia”, is jam-packed with some amazing music. You can listen to the entire album here and you can download it here. If the first two songs of this album don’t hook you, you should get your ears checked!

“Ars Gratia Artis” is the first track of the album and it is gorgeous. Starting out with a sample about how much music and life are inextricable the song builds a gentle electronic beat with accents of piano and hand claps. Trillo tells us how music really is his life and how desperately important it is with effortless eloquence. The hook centers around a beautiful female vocal hook. The song hooked me with every new element it introduced. Check it out!

The second track on the album is a bit more aggressive and celebrates hip-hop for its expressive powers. With an up beat backing track, Trillo lays down rapid-fire rap verses that catch the ear and hold it. Enjoy it and listen to the rest of the album already!

A Rapid Burst of EDM V

October 22, 2013

Incredible prolonged exposure of a hooper by John Shippee Photography
Wow, time flies when you’re busy! It’s been two months since the last EDM round-up. That seems like too long. So I better get to work!

LeDoom made this fun remix months ago, but I’m new to it and I quite appreciate it. The song highlights playful and catchy vocals as well as a barebones festival beat to break it up. Check it out!

Continuing in the festival theme, Boombox Cartel came out with this “WTF is Festival Trap” remix one month ago. I was enchanted. I love genre bending and I had a sweet tooth for trap for a while, so I was drawn in easily. Want to know what festival trap is? Festival synths with trap style and backbeats. Listen to understand!

Pegboard Nerds released the Lost Tracks EP at the end of August, and it has some fun stuff on it. “FrainBreeze” is glitch-hop filled with some funky highlights. You can name your own price for the Lost Tracks EP here. Enjoy it!

Favright shared their music with me in the last month, and I’m pleased they did. They have a complextro sound reminiscent of Wolfgang Gartner. That sound shines through in this song and is altogether enjoyable. Give it a listen!

Levitate – Favright / Or from Facebook

Fatwave made this remix for a contest. While they did not win the contest, they made one great song, which they decided to share with their fans for free. After a minute of fairly standard intro, the beat drops out and the vocals shine atop a distant synth and clap. The song builds to a beautiful crescendo and then becomes a very barebones festival hook. Check it out!

Escape (Fatwave Remix) – 3LAU, Paris & Simo feat. Bright Lights / Or from Facebook

Bamboora and Odd Job teamed up to put this prog/electro/big room track together. The hook features an addictive synth and infectious tune, before dropping into a foot stomping electro section. Enjoy it!

Last week Vicetone released this sleek remix. The hook is simply irresistible prog house. Give it a listen!

New Kings ft. Luciana (Radio Mix) – Vicetone vs Popeska / Or from Facebook

Dave Edwards remixed this song at the beginning of the month, and it has several movements to it. There’s the casual guitar riff that intros the vocals. Then there’s the gorgeous electro-pop synth hook, chords reminiscent of the tropics though undeniably electric. To tie these two sections together, there’s a simple yet clear set of keyboard tones to overlap with both sections and sparkle with an added synth topping. Check it out!

Need U (100%) [Dave Edwards Remix] – Duke Dumont feat. A*M*E / Or from Facebook

BONUS: And here’s the terrific instrumental that Dave Edwards put together for the remix above. On its own, it is ready to go for any mashup purposes (hint, hint, nudge, nudge). Enjoy it!

Feisty (Blue Satellite Remix) – Jhameel

October 7, 2013

Blue Satellite
No the album isn’t out yet. But that doesn’t stop exciting music coming from Jhameel. He released the stems to his single “Feisty” and that puts the pressure on someone else. Blue Satellite stepped up to the plate and put together a beautiful remix. As Blue Satellite said, this remix was designed in response to the Michael Jackson-esque sound that Jhameel exuded in “Feisty”. Appropriately, the remix is old style, with simple synth lines backed by a constant disco beat. But don’t think that this makes it boring. Blue Satellite adds spice with little flourishes all throughout the song. Just check out the old school distortions that he puts Jhameel’s vocals through. To top it all off he adds a breakdown with some keyboard vamping and a guitar solo. Hard to say no to that. It’s been a while since the last time I posted a Blue Satellite remix, but I’m glad to be reminded of such a talented artist. Check it out!
