Middle of Nowhere – Sarah Miles

March 13, 2012

Yesterday was rather focused on Bambooyah! So now for something completely different. I’ll let the bio that was sent to me do the talking.

Singer-songwriter, Sarah Miles is a young woman with a killer voice, catchy pop melodies, some fabulous high heels, and a hint of twang. As enamored with the sounds of Nashville as she is with the sounds of Brooklyn, Sarah’s songs are as youthful and lighthearted as her spirit…though her lyrics sometimes show a weightier, pensive side. Sarah has received awards and attracted attention everywhere her voice has carried her…but one expects as much from any talented, budding artist. What stands out is her devotion to finding a unique and honest voice…simply put, Sarah’s music is heartfelt and genuine. Tonight she will fall asleep with her headphones on…tomorrow she will wake up humming a new tune that needs to be heard.

I really enjoy this song. Sarah Miles has a gorgeous voice and I can’t wait to hear more from her. Enjoy!

Suddenly Mashups. Everywhere. XXXXIX

March 9, 2012

Happy happy Friday folks! It’s a mashup day and I want to make sure that I manage to post these awesome mashups on Friday, so that we can all start the weekend right. So without further ado…

Let’s get started with a beautiful track from No Pets Allowed. This song is the first off of a stellar three song EP that you can find here. I realize I’ve been throwing a lot of T.Swift at you all in my mashup posts. I don’t apologize. I really enjoy how her voice can mesh really well with all manner of pop and prog house. Give this a listen for yourself.

Moves Like Taylor – No Pets Allowed / Or from HulkShare

In typical Jane Doze style, this mashup pairs an unlikely set and turns it into a very cool song. I’m a fan of Sigur Ros and so any inclusion of their music makes me happy automatically. When it’s done this well it makes me pretty ecstatic. Check it out.

Replacement Ros – The Jane Doze / Or from HulkShare

At first I thought this was too silly to include. Then I decided it was silly but that people would like it because it was silly. But then I started really enjoying it. The beat could be added to a lounge style funk or jazz, but instead DJ LeCLown adds it to “Do You Really Want to Make Me Cry”. Funny. But enjoyable. Spotted on MashupTown. Enjoy!

Do you really want to Tchiki boom? – DJ Le Clown / Or from HulkShare

The Two Friends have another mashup! They take on “Stacy’s Mom” in this one and I like it. It’s not very happy, which is too bad because that was the best part of the original, but their version is very cool. Give it a listen and decide for yourself.

Stacy’s Mode (2F MILF ALERT BOOTLEG) – The Two Friends / Or from HulkShare

Well this is a long list of artists for only drawing upon two songs. Crazy. Manila Killa nails this track. If you have any doubts, wait for Sia’s vocals to come in before you pass judgment. These songs just fit. Check it out.

Titanium Minds (Manila Killa Bootleg) – David Guetta Ft. Sia vs. Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl feat. Georgi Kay & Axwell / Or from HulkShare

Yoni just came out with a mashup album. You can find the entire album here. Last year I called March “March Mashup Madness” and I’m beginning to wonder if this is an annual thing. I’m not complaining if it is. Take this song for instance. I haven’t enjoyed Coldplay in quite some time, so it’s awesome when some artist dresses it up in an awesome background. Enjoy!

Coldplay’s Aura – Yoni / Or from HulkShare

I thought I’d put this next one here too. This song is getting a lot of play in the mashup circles. Here is DJ Foxfire‘s take on it. While the song is obviously the same, the addition of the Britney, Katy, and the industrial background from Candyland really gives it a whole different sound. I like it. Give it a listen and tell me what you think!

You Make Me Feel Hypnotic – DJ Foxfire / Or from HulkShare

I got this in my email and the name of the song is a bit confusing. Allow me to clarify. The background track for this mashup is by 90s Finest while the whole mashup was made by DJ Trademark. I approve heartily. It’s a pop party minded prog house track. Check it out.

Paradise (90’s Finest Remix) – DJ Trademark / Or from HulkShare

Mashup-Germany put out a track so of course I had to include it. That’s not quite how I decide what I put on the blog, but Stilller’s work is just so consistently excellent that it may as well work like that for him. I have nothing to say but that this song is amazing and enjoyable and you should be listening to it already! Enjoy and have an awesome weekend!

Starships Dance Floor Porn – Mashup-Germany / Or from HulkShare

BONUS: This track is so epic, I thought I’d give you guys a double dose of No Pets Allowed. You guys don’t mind do you? That’s what I thought. This track is hands down the best version of the Skrillex/Doors collaboration track, including the original. The sample of dialogue from Breaking Bad just makes the track more intense. I’ve never watched it but this kind of makes me want to. Have fun with it!

Breaking Bad – No Pets Allowed / Or from HulkShare

And because I like you guys so much, here’s one more bonus! Actually this is also for any mashup artists out there. Can you make this – with the actual songs? Because it looks doable. And awesome.

Been Thinkin’ About You – Ben Wright Smith

November 14, 2011

This cheery little track was brought to my attention the other day, and I’m glad it was. Ben Wright Smith sings soulfully and cheerfully in this catchy alt country track. He’s a singer

from Melbourne, Australia who’s been building huge momentum as of late leading up to the release of his debut album ‘Autumn Safari’ on November 18th.

Well I’m looking forward to it. It’s been awhile since I’ve heard a relaxed guitar track with a nice harmonica riff on the end. Give it a listen!

Bitter Man – Colossal Gospel

August 29, 2011

Today feels a little slow, as if moving gingerly from aches accumulated over the weekend. So here’s a lovely folk song to take it slow with. Colossal Gospel crafted a beautiful song pulling together drifting vocals and lovely plucking and strumming with hand claps and military drum rolls. It’s really well done. If you want to send some money their way, check out their BandCamp. Spotted on Knox Road. Enjoy!

Suddenly Mashups. Everywhere. XXVII

August 12, 2011

Happy Friday all! I apologize for the lack of a post yesterday, but I was browsing the net for dubstep and got sidetracked by several different genres. In the end I posted nothing. Oh well. It’s a mashup day today and I am extra psyched for it being Friday because my girlfriend is visiting this weekend. I hope your weekends are going to be awesome too! Here are some mashups to start it right.

Let’s start with something festive and funky. I blame my man Greg for getting me into this kind of flow more recently. But man is it good. Daigo gives us some ass shaking lyrics from 50 and some shakeable music from Keith Mansfield. Definitely music to move to. Enjoy.

Funky Inferno – Daigo / Or from Mediafire

You guys should know the drill by now. Of course there is new White Panda out. Of course it’s awesome. Of course they only use great samples. Of course it’s danceable. Of course you should be listening to it already.

Deep in the Levels – the White Panda / Or from Mediafire

Taking it down a notch with Keane here. While this mashup totally works, I still feel a little creative dissonance because the Keane song is not entirely happy, edging toward emo, whereas Wiz is almost entirely triumphal. But that’s where the chorus comes in to match the tones. The harmonics sound a little odd here but the moods match. Good mashup from Vic Ono. Check it out.

Somewhere Only Planes Know (Wiz Khalifa vs. Keane) – Vic Ono / Or from Mediafire

Bringing it back to the King and some Jay to get rid of any self pity left over from the last song. Nas spits like none other on this one. Cookin Soul certainly lived up to the name on this one. Simply excellent.

Success (Elvis vs Jay-Z Mashup) (feat. Nas) – Cookin Soul / Or from Mediafire

I have to admit here, my favorite part of this is the instrumental and my least favorite part is the vocals. But the entire thing is beautiful even if the chorus is annoying. I like this more than my personal soft spot for the Beatles accounts for. The Rhythm Scholar really did an excellent job on this. Check it out.

Baby You’re Flying (Rhythm Scholar Mashup) – The Beatles vs. Rhythm Scholar / Or from Mediafire

Yeah so the instrumental of the Madonna track annoys me but I thought this was a fun mashup as fun ones go and it gets us back in the pop of the aughts with a pop star big in the 80s (and now). CjR keeps all the familiar hooks in and it’s fun. Enjoy!

Hung Up on Jason Derulo – CjR Mix / Or from Mediafire

I think this song is beautiful. A shy, naive, emo kind of beautiful but still. But then that darn song Calabria hits the song over the head with that stupid riff. I’d love a version of this track without that. I’m fine with the lyrics from Calabria, just not that riff. Meh. Yoni Einhorn made a great song nonetheless. Enjoy it and have a great weekend!

Suddenly Mashups. Everywhere. XII

April 8, 2011

Happy Friday! Finally! The week after break is always a long and tedious week. I’ve fallen behind, but this post should help me catch up. There are quite a few mashups that came out recently that I have been meaning to post. Here they are.

First, a new full track off of the White Panda‘s album, Pandamonium. This track may have been my favorite track on the album, and here it is in its full glory. They ironed out the issues I had with the chorus and now it’s all pretty and sunshine! See?

Steal Eastwood – the White Panda / Or from Mediafire

Next up, a new track from Doug Bogan. This track is full on pop. Doug says: “So I was thinking about how far afield I (may have seemed to have) strayed with some of my recent dubstep remixes, and went back to the musical drawing board for reconsideration. Don’t want to scare people off with music, you know.” While I don’t mind the dubstep, I know that some people do and I understand the idea behind this track. Definitely pop all the way across the board. Take a listen.

We R The World – Doug Bogan / Or from Mediafire

Here’s the last brand new one I got for you. The Friendly Giant put out another one! I know right? The dude is nothing if not prolific. TFG says: “I’m in Hawaii for Spring Break, and I put this new song together on the plane ride over. It’s supposed to be a new take on an overplayed song. I tried to make something for when you’re relaxing and just want a chill song to listen to, and hopefully I was able to do that.” This is definitely chiller than the original and chiller than a lot of his previous mashups. I like it. Check it out.

She Mite Be Loved – the Friendly Giant / Or from Mediafire

Ok this next one is not new per se, but it is new to me, and ever since I heard it I’ve been wandering around with it on repeat. Let me emphasize this. This song is awesome. I introduced you to D.veloped the other day with his awesome mashup “Bring Em Home”. Browsing his past music I came across this one. This has a ton of different pop songs that it cycles through but it has one amazing drop at the 1:30 mark where it transitions from Taylor Swift to Jay Sean and Skrillex. Yes! So good. And it fills my Skrillex requirement. Check this out and don’t judge until after the 1:30 mark. It’s good before that but that drop makes it special.

Skrill Ex-Friends With Benefits – D.veloped / Or from Mediafire

Next up is an old mashup that I’ve been meaning to post for ages. This was one of my favorites awhile ago. The Reborn Identity is still one of better mashup sets out there. I’ve seen the Kooks in concert and that makes this that much more charming. it matches up perfectly with “In For the Kill” but in a completely different way than just about any other mashup or remix of it I’ve ever heard. It’s way more whimsical and less ominous or sparse than other mixes. I love it. Check it out.

In For the Kooks – La Roux vs. The Kooks / Or from Mediafire

This one’s also pretty old. I think this is the mashup that got me interested in the Hood Internet. It’s very slick. While it’s a beat for a rap song, it is something special. It has that indie charm. Check it out.

Save Me Concubine (Ghostface Killah vs. Beirut) – the Hood Internet / Or from Mediafire

I forgot! Another new one. Xaphoon Jones put out his second mixtape and it’s pretty sweet. This is the best song on the tape. I know some of you are saying, “I Want You Back” is over remixed. But don’t let that prejudice you. This track is unbelievably well done. Xaphoon Jones is slick as usual. Enjoy it and have a good weekend!

The Jackson Pit – Xaphoon Jones / Or from Mediafire

Suddenly Mashups. Everywhere. IX

March 18, 2011

Happy Friday! It’s midterms weekend for me. That means stress is coming. That could mean one of two things for the blog… A week of sparse posting (by me, mashix. scaw might post a bit, not sure) as I study and outline and read and write and edit and stress. Or a week of a lot of posts prompted by extreme procrastination. Time will tell. As it is, I’m enjoying my weekend as much as I can. Let’s start it off with a heavy dose of March Mashup Madness!

First off, a brand new mashup by the talented The Friendly Giant! Here’s what he has to say about this one:

It’s pretty simple, but I’m still happy with how it turned out– it’s meant to be played very loud and hopefully it’ll get you moving.

He’s right, it really deserves loud volume to be enjoyed. It’s a dance track and you need to feel the beat to really bounce to it. My favorite mashup of “Overnight” is still the White Panda‘s “Overnight Panther” (I posted that here) but this one is still quite fun. Enjoy (at loud volumes hopefully).

Twisted (Friendly Giant Mashup) – Twista vs Pendulum / Or from Mediafire

I came across this mashup on Dirty Mexican Lemonade while unsuccessfully trying to find an early release of Big Z Remixes lastest album. It’s just my kind of mashup, rap meets progressive house. Very fun. Hope you like it too.

Electric Hustlin’ ft. Mord Fustang and Rick Ross – Tim Gunter / Or from Mediafire

So I like this one a really sort of guilty way. Too much T-Swift for it to be really legit to like. But it turns banjo and fiddle into a beat! How could I resist that? Doug Bogan‘s pretty talented with pop mashups. I’ve known about him for about a year now, I don’t really remember who introduced me to him but he’s just gotten better in that time. This one isn’t terribly new but it’s so fun. Check out his newer stuff on his SoundCloud. Enjoy the beat!

Our Caribou Song (Doug Bogan Mashup) – Taylor Swift vs Tech N9ne / Or from Mediafire

And now for the requisite Ellie mashup. Mochi Beats always keeps it interesting so you should enjoy this one. I think it is now my favorite version of this song (previously Chiddy Bang’s version). Hopefully this will now be your favorite too! Enjoy! (via Sunset in the Rearview)

Keep Me Under the Sheets (Mochi Beats Remix) – Ellie Goulding vs Three 6 Mafia / Or from Mediafire

Did you know that Starfucker made mashups? Neither did I! Awesome! And with Gucci Mane? Cool. Listen Before You Buy brought this important information to my attention and now I bring it to yours. I hope you use this knowledge wisely.

Running Back Dragon Monkey (Starfucker Mashup) – Gucci Mane Vs. Skeletron / Or from Mediafire

If you’re not excited that Mashup-Germany is putting out an album at the end of the month, then you’re not paying attention. I post this in the hopes that you will take proper notice. Mashup-Germany makes epic mashups. How more epic could this? Oh right, a sample from the Lion King. That’s right. Not just Rihanna and Chiddy Bang and Disturbed. Even more. Get excited.

I love the way you mix (Lie) – Mashup-Germany / Or from Mediafire

To end, I want to post an old favorite mashup of mine. It is one of the smoothest mashups I have, the only exception maybe being another song by the same artist, Voidstar. Daft Punk meets Guns N Roses. Except that wouldn’t be smooth, so Voidstar takes a smooth cover of it to mash, and the female vocals mesh nicely with the Daft Punk. It’s skillfully done. Enjoy it.

Sweet World Of Mine (Voidstar Mashup) – Daft Punk vs Banda Do Sul / Or from Mediafire

BONUS: And here’s your March Mashup Madness bonus track. It’s a simple funny little mashup that circulated YouTube awhile ago. Enjoy an Office version of Lil Wayne and have an great weekend!

Office Musik (Clockwork Edit) – Dwight K. Schrute vs. Weezy / Or from Mediafire
