You Got Me – IDestiny & RonPon

April 29, 2016

IDestiny (Photo by Cagle Johnson Photography)

It’s Friday again! And that means I want something celebratory and dance-able to put you all in the right mood for the weekend. IDestiny and RonPon provide this for us today. Their collaboration is filled with happy synth lines, sounds evoking water drips and drops, and chopped and screwed vocals used as one of several hooks. This has a lot of the same musical sensibilities you get in the realm of happy hardcore, but its rhythms are laidback trap. It’s catchy, it’s happy, and it’s what’s for breakfast. Enjoy the happy trap!

Contrast – Alexander Lewis

April 27, 2016

Alexander Lewis

Alexander Lewis put together an incredible ride for us in this song. The track starts off quiet, evoking a ticking clock, adding urgency before even adding volume intensity. But soon he adds foot stomping chords and rhythms that place this song somewhere between trap and glitch, drawing on the crunchy sounds of 8-bit and reverb. In case you weren’t sure the trap rhythms were really there, Lewis throws in an undeniably trap section around 1:50, aggressive and featuring male vocals shouting in vaguely dog-like “ruff”s. This is a triumphant melding of trap and electronic, in an unpredictable and satisfying package. Check it out.

Hanoi (Radio Edit) – Florian Picasso

April 25, 2016

Florian Picasso

Florian Picasso starts this track off slow but builds up satisfyingly to a triumphant and joyous hook. The opening synths resonate and wouldn’t be out of place in a Deadmau5 track circa “I Remember”. The song shifts as the tune is introduced by more staccato bell tones around the 34 second mark. The synths change again for the drop, using more festival style prog house sounds. It’s a lovely tune and a sweet song, just the right mood to start off the week on.

Touch Ft. Madi (DLMT Remix) – KSHMR And Felix Snow

April 22, 2016

DLMT

Ready for a bit of a weekend, folks? Allow DLMT  to snare you and push you into the mood for dancing. From the dramatic house opening to its conclusive finish, this track keeps the listener engaged. When the insistent rhythm of the intro drops, the hushed vocals sound urgent, calling the listener closer and hurrying them forward to the drop. When that drops, it’s powerful and bouncy, not in a cheerful way but deep and resonant enough to be more manic and fey, drawing you into the dance and the dark. DLMT took a track  from KSHMR and Felix Snow that was part trap, part electro, part twerk and turned it into a dark deep house track with an incredible new hook. It’s worth several listens and several weekends.

Hypocrite – Dallerium & Twisted Tom

April 20, 2016

Dallerium

Dallerium and Twisted Tom built a banger here, and that is not a term I use lightly. It takes more than a satisfying and aggressive hook (which this track certainly has) to make a banger. In this case, the truly salty lyrics push this song into powerful banger territory. It’s a song about calling out someone for pretending to be oh so pure when they have no right to it, and it is painfully clear, to you at least, that they’re just a hypocrite. If a song can evoke the side-eye, this one did it. Take a listen!

See You – Lope & Kantola

April 18, 2016

Lope & Kantola

Let’s enjoy the warmth this week has brought us and start off with a chill track from Lope & Kantola. Starting off with a relaxed guitar riff, this song builds by adding a chopped vocal sample that develops into the beginnings of lyrics as simple synth chords swell around them. While this track grows into some powerful music, it remains relaxed and groovy. Enjoy the song and enjoy the week!

Bring Back The Summer (Ft Oly) [Paxel Remix] – Rainman

April 11, 2016

Paxel

It was lovely last month, 70s and sunny. But now that it’s April I’ve had multiple snow storms and consistently cold grey days. So how can I not empathize with this song? Paxel brings us a tweaked version of Rain Man’s track “Bring Back The Summer”. By adding strings where Rain Man just had simple synth chords, Paxel expands this song greatly. Everything in this remix shouts out how much Paxel loves the original track. He preserves every piece, adding a new layer that blows this track sky high, never contradicting the original, only expanding. Enjoy the track, and here’s hoping that summer won’t be long in returning.
