Americans Anonymous – Mike Braugher

May 21, 2014

Mike Braugher

This is hands down the best song I’ve heard in the last three months. Mike Braugher is currently a college student at Oberlin College, yet manages to make the time to put together several albums and this new (as of March) single, “Americans Anonymous”. This song opens with a addictive electronic synth line but Braugher steals the show with opening lyrics that demand attention. This song has brilliant lyrics. He spends this song questioning society’s sense of right and wrong, showcasing the contradictions that a capitalist society ignores and accepts. Delivered with passion and flawless cadence, these lyrics have given me goosebumps on multiple occasions. It is no surprise to anyone following Mike Braugher’s music that he would choose to set this song in a form alluding to Alcoholics Anonymous. Much of his previous work refers to his own struggles with alcohol abuse. To check out Braugher’s earlier albums visit his Bandcamp page here. Enjoy this song and be sure to pay attention to the lyrics.

Hello Again

May 21, 2014

I’m sorry I’ve been gone so long. I haven’t really been in a good place. But I’ve tentatively decided to get back into blogging. I can’t promise any sort of consistency; it will depend on my free time, internet, and state of mind. But I hope to start sharing some great music again.
