Update: Jhameel

May 30, 2012

Well it’s been over a week, I know. I had a week spent entirely in work, partying, and sleeping. It felt like way longer. At least scaw gave you all some music yesterday. But summer has officially started and now I’m going to make an effort to be a little more consistent. To start off, here’s an update on Jhameel‘s latest music series. I blogged the first track from it a bit ago and he’s come out with two more since. The most recent track is called “A Maiden Calling”. Starting with a rapid guitar (sounding) riff and a simple synth backing, Jhameel’s voice rises quietly and gently. It’s a lot more abstract than much of his work. I really like it. It fits the poetic style of lyrics that goes with this track. If you can catch the lyrics, you’ll enjoy them. Enjoy!

Last week, Jhameel dropped this track and it’s quite a bit darker than the last one. Describing a vignette of an abusive relationship, Jhameel tells this woman that at some point she’s going to realize she really wants to be out of this relationship. I like the sound a lot; it really evokes Michael Jackson. The lyrics themselves are less poetic than the last song, banking instead on the strength of the situation. Check it out!
