Fear Not the Dubstep XX

September 15, 2011

It’s Thursday again, thank god. These first few weeks are always the most strenuous. But the weekend is in sight and all is well. Dubstep time. And I am psyched that I have a ton of really high quality dubstep to deliver this week. This week’s roundup is mostly thanks to the people with good taste at Decently Dope and the Music Ninja.

Zeds Dead is back. Remember White Satin? Similar idea here; a very chill dubstep interpretation of Aretha Franklin. It’s beautiful, haunting, and smooth. Plus it feeds my addiction to sped up vocals. Check it out.

Now Theophilus London is awesome. This is generally accepted as fact. But I never had thought of him as a candidate for some awesome wobs. Now I know better. The Ocelot remix rocks this song. Enjoy!

Another person I never thought to see in the dubstep limelight is Mayer Hawthorne. Much more comfortable on the R&B / Soul side of things, his voice works surprisingly well when edited and matched to a monster of a track. You can really hear the Skrillex on this one reworking a pretty normally great beat from SebastiAn. Try it on for size.

Remember Nuskulfunk? If not, check this out. While this starts gently it gets as loud and raucous as any Skrillex track. Interspersing traditional wobbage with more Skrillexian rage (sometimes inside a second), Nuskulfunk rocks out. Check it out. PS Sorry it’s not downloadable! I realized last minute that they released this on Beatport.

Knife Party is new to me, and I’m pretty sure this is just a clip and not the full song. That aside, it’s pretty awesome. The beat is pure Moombahton, but the music is entirely rage and dubstep. I guess you get a double dose of Skrillex today. I’m not apologizing. Enjoy it!

Time to start the transition back to something chiller. Remember it’s still Thursday. You can party tomorrow. Starting off quiet and relaxed this song seizures into some intense rage building off of some simple bass. I love the percussive section starting around the 1:09 mark. Rage your way down with some Stephan Jacobs.

Now it’s really time to chill out. Who better to bring you to this calm state than Bob Marley? Blunt Instrumental harks back to some reggae roots for this dubstep track. The production is beautiful. Enjoy.
