Suddenly Mashups. Everywhere. XVI

May 6, 2011

Happy Friday! I’ve been writing this whole week from my new computer. So far it’s worked really well. What I’m hoping now is that it stays good. My last computer worked fine for about three weeks. Then I had to replace the screen twice, the motherboard three times, and eventually gave up with a bum video card and line of dead pixels through my screen. This one has none of those problems yet for which I am very grateful. Despite it being Friday, I’m not really getting a weekend. I have one paper due tonight at midnight and another on Sunday and a presentation and a quiz on Monday. Bleh. I hope that for everyone else the weekend treats you well.

First off, The Friendly Giant is back with a happy little mashup bringing Drake to the 90s. Drake’s lyrics about how great his lady friend is add nicely to the message that Third Eye Blind present, trying to get this wonderful relationship back. Plus it’s got that classic guitar riff, and that’s hard to ruin. Enjoy it!

Here’s another full length track from Pandamonium. The White Panda keeps pumping them out and is practically done. There doesn’t seem to be any drop in quality though, these guys are good. “Tell Me Why” meets “Like a G6” in proper Panda fashion (read awesome). Check it out.

I haven’t posted any Big Z Remixes in awhile and I thought I’d fix that. In case you didn’t grab the mixtapes when I posted about them, here a good example of his stellar production style. The bare minimal beat built from the ground up to give the verses a new atmosphere. Picking and choosing verses from Asher Roth and Lil Wayne, he turns this excellent remix into a cool mashup. Nice.

And now for a change of pace. This mashup is a mashup of remix of a Bo Diddley song, some dialogue from the movie “Rocknrolla”, and some Prodigy lyrics. It is one sick track, emphasizing heavy rocking guitar and bass edging toward industrial. DJ Le Clown was rather inspired in making this. Check it out.

Following the hard rock tone from the last track, here’s a mashup based around Papa Roach. DJ Schmolli is really good at edgier sounds in mashups and this is no exception. He nicely demonstrates that Rihanna really should be in a hard rock band and quit her day job as a pop star. Her vocals just fit beautifully. Enjoy!

Next up is an even older track. Remember Usher and Lil Jon’s song “Yeah”? Yeah. It’s old. But I always liked this version better. The practically disco techno track backing it fits absurdly well, which makes for some interesting ideas on how to dance to it. What do you think?

And finally, I’m leaving you with a pretty new track from DJs From Mars. I know there are a billion Adele remixes and mashups out there and most of them are crap. This one is interesting. It has a really dominating electro house track under her vocals that even as they fit nicely with Adele’s voice, they overpower it at strategic points, letting the track (which becomes industrial at points) really shine. So give it chance. It’s awesome.
