Suddenly Mashups. Everywhere. XV

April 30, 2011

Happy Friday everyone! I’m writing this on my new computer. Well… It was. And I was… Ok it’s still Friday in California, so it’s cool. And it takes forever to transfer all my music to a new computer and get it running in a new iTunes install. Bleh. Anyways after much fun and silliness my friends decided I should make a Ridiculous Mashup playlist. It’s large. And ridiculous. And hilarious. Some of the songs have practically no musical merit other than being a hilarious idea, whereas some are not as hilarious and idea but good enough to be included. While a some of these songs have been posted before, more than two thirds of them I’ve never posted before. I hope the quantity, not to mention the hilarity, of these mashups make up for its tardiness. Enjoy!

Here is a link to the entire playlist in a zip folder.

Fear Not the Dubstep IX

April 28, 2011

Well I managed to round up seven quality dubstep tracks to share with you all. And it is Thursday, so it’s time to share. Dubstep is nothing to fear. But it is really hard to find the free good stuff. Here’s what I got for you.

I’m starting off with this one because it’s probably the most famous of the tracks I have right now and it is damn good. Adventure Club has really made a name for themselves, and with good reason. These guys are some of the best remixers out there. I’m really impressed with Britney Spears right now. I like the original of this song and I was shocked that I did. She must be really good at reinventing herself. The original of this song is a decent progressive house track. Also now she’s hopped on the remix train! Ke$ha and Nicki team up on the official remix of this. Awesome. Well check out this remix, it’s got a hearty helping of bass to start this off.

Till the World Ends (Adventure Club Dubstep Remix) – Britney Spears / Or from Mediafire

Next up is your requisite dose of Ellie Goulding. Who can go long without a lovely high voice and heavy bass? Well a bunch of people but we aren’t they. I’ve pretty much explained this kind of song to death so skip on to the listening!

Lights (The SoniXx Dubstep Remix) – Ellie Goulding / Or from Mediafire

Zed’s Dead is still going hard and here’s the evidence of that if you really needed it. This song is slower than some of their songs but it builds like a thunderstorm in the distance, getting closer. Dark and powerful is the aura that every Zed’s Dead track seems to exude and this is no exception. Check it out.

Only You (Zeds Dead Remix) – Jason Faulkner / Or from Mediafire

Next we have a Kanye remix. As Kanye remixes go this is kind of innovative. While the intro is pretty boring and standard, the remix builds into a dubstep symphony based around Kanye’s beat, not his lyrics. I’m pretty sure the only words in this are from the chorus “can we get much higher”. It’s interesting. And good. Enjoy.

Dark Fantasy (Figure Bootleg) – Kanye West / Or from Mediafire

Ephixa is a genius for this one. He takes the theme from the lost woods in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and turns it into an awesome and compelling dubstep track. Not to mention he samples Navi to drop the beat. Beautiful.

Remember how I was talking about liking a high voice and heavy bass? Yeah. Well. Here’s some more of that. What I like about this track is that the vocalist adds this little trill to almost every other word. It’s very attention grabbing and adds to the feeling of the singer being distant or otherworldly. Very cool. Enjoy.

Stories (Dream Remix) – Ghost & Misty / Or from Mediafire

This seemed like a good song to end on, simply because of the title. And it really feels like a positive spin on the title. Whereas “I Go Away” could be a sad ending, this song is full of hope and excitement for what’s to come. Unlike a lot of the dubstep tracks I’ve been posting this one uses far less bass and throws in a lot more whimsical high pitched runs and sparkles. It’s a very pretty and cute (from the vocals) song. Have a good day! Tomorrow is Friday!

I Go Away (The Oos & Ahhs Dubstep Remix) – MNDR / Or from Mediafire

6 Foot 7 Foot (Cover) – Karmin

April 27, 2011

Wow. I hadn’t heard of Karmin (Amy & Nick) before I saw this on Earmilk. Amy has one of the most expressive voices in rap I have ever heard. She takes Wayne’s intense lyrics and really makes them her own. With a tiny drum machine, keyboard, and back up vocals, Nick let’s Amy showcase her perfect diction and amazing vocal range. She cleans up Weezy’s lyrics and has a ball with them. Watching her rap is rather mesmerizing too; her face is almost as expressive as her voice. Check this out and check out the other covers they do. They have an iTunes and Amazon presence if you want to support them. Enjoy.

Figure 8 – Outasight

April 26, 2011

New stuff people. The background is temporarily the cover for DOSVEC‘s new album GLIMPSES coming out May 23rd. With a little publication you can get his album free, now. Pretty cool right? So #GlimpsesMay23! Other new things include this song! I’ve been an Outasight fan for quite some time. They came out with a new EP today and it’s available for free on Bandcamp as well as for pay on iTunes. The title track is probably my favorite so far. It has all the hallmarks of a good Outasight song. Piano, fun call and response, and bits of harmony and song interspersed with the rap. Lovely and happy. Check it out.

Run This Town – Oh My

April 25, 2011

I’ve been meaning to post this forever. Saw it on Pigeons and Planes and it’s grown on me since. It starts off kind of annoying and simple, but turns into something quirky, cute, and enjoyable. The vocals are very repetitive and come in different stages of musical-ity. I love the stark contrasts in this track. Oh and in case you were worrying this is not a Jay-Z cover, it’s new. Oh My is a new girl band. I hope they keep the pop punk feel, it’s enjoyable. Check it out.

Suddenly Mashups. Everywhere. XIV

April 22, 2011

Happy Friday everybody! I’m blogging on my headphones next to my friends who are playing Smash Bros on the N64. It’s a pretty sweet setup. I can’t wait to be done with this computer though. It’ll be nice to have a computer that works consistently. Alright here we go so I can get back into this competition.

We’ll start you off with another full length White Panda track. By now you should know what to expect. Rap meets techno pretty flawlessly. Enjoy!

Exploration of Step – the White Panda / Or from Mediafire

Next I’m going to post some old ones. These two are both Loo & Placido tracks and high quality. The Cure should be mashed and remixed more often. As it is, this song makes for a good basis for Nelly and makes for a highly enjoyable whole.

Nellycats -The Cure vs Nelly / Or from Mediafire

Another L&P. This track has a really nice beat to add to vocals from Destiny’s Child. I know that Destiny’s Child is remixed to death but this one totally works. Mashups have really evolved in the past couple of years but a good A+B mash is still gold. Check it out.

My Favourite Name – The Cardigans vs Destiny’s Child / Or from Mediafire

There’s not a lot I can say about this track. I’m not sure who made it. I’ve had it for awhile. All I know is that it’s really good. Mashups should explore the genre of glitch more. This mashup is not glitch per se but it turns glitch into a beat for Drake and Weezy. I approve. It’s kind of chaotic and beautiful.

Cosmic Terror Money to Blow – St. Andrew vs Drake / Or from Mediafire

DJ Jimi Needles is back with another mashup and as usual it’s awesome, chill and fresh. It’s a really funky, sunny approach to mashups. Which is awesome. Enjoy it.

Mr. Buzzin’ (Jimi Needles Acid Jazz Cocktail) – D-Funk vs Mann / Or from Mediafire

Marc Johnce is one of my favorite mashup artists because of how smooth his mixes feel. This one is no exception. This is also no A+B track. This is one of the more labor intensive pieces. This is a pop anthem for sure, here’s the line up: Pet Shop Boys vs. Britney Spears vs. Adele vs. Rihanna vs. Bloodhound Gang vs. Huey Lewis vs. The All-American Rejects. I love the addition of “Bad Touch”, it really rounds out the Britney and All-American Rejects. You think so?

The Power Of Rolling Along (Till The World Ends) – Marc Johnce / Or from Mediafire

And to end it all, a lovely Hood Internet track. They can be hit or miss, but this is definitely hit. They’ve done this before: taking a really beautiful cheerful indie song and twisting it into a quirky beat for a mainstream rapper (in this case Soulja Boy). And it really works. Happy Friday! Have a good weekend!

The Pains Of Going Hammer – Soulja Boy vs The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart / Or from Mediafire
