Suddenly Mashups. Everywhere. VIII

March 11, 2011

Happy happy Friday all! It’s back to a winter wonderland here, Ohio weather is ridiculous, but I’m not too annoyed since it being Friday fixes most things. I hope it’s going well for everyone out there and that you’re all having a great month of March Mashup Madness.

To start off I’m feeling a jazzy little number by Jimi Needles. This the chillest version of a Dizzee song I’ve heard. And I really like it. This is the kind of thing you can play and the background and feel classy. As the title suggests, I bet this would go down well at a cocktail party. It’s just good music. And you know the artist names are just made for each other. Check it out.

Next up is a really nice use of Ellie Goulding’s voice. Like I’ve said, her voice just attracts producers. In this case DJ Fergie Ferg turns her voice into a beat as opposed to making a beat for it. Inventive. I like it. (Saw it on Pigeons and Planes)

And now I’m putting up a track from Big Z Remixes. Big Z’s songs are always hard to call remix or mashup because it’s always a bit of both. In this one he builds a new beat to house Kanye’s vocals with a verse added by Tupac. And I’ve got to say, this is the only version of “Jesus Walks” I’ve ever heard in which Kanye’s gratuitous use of “niggas” in his beat doesn’t seem out of place. The beat actually supports that without making it just sound annoying. Before I just had to listen to the clean version. Big Z Remixes drops a new album next Tuesday. Be excited. It’s going to be awesome.

And now for a Shady mashup. Tell a friend. Or a Friendly Giant? Well remember how I said I dig the Friendly Giant’s (TFG) mashups? Here’s another. It’s really simple, very repetitive, and doesn’t have very new content. So why do I like it so much? It really works. And as my family can attest too (likely with a pained expression), I really enjoy the repetitive nature of techno. It brings a whole new hook to the Shady song. I really dig the interludes that TFG brings into the song. They’re really interesting and they make the chorus very welcome. Take a listen.

Here’s another favorite artist of mine: Mashup-Germany. Ben Stilller (I still can’t get over his name) is dropping an album this month (the 30th to be precise) since it is March Mashup Madness. This track is filled with a ton of different artists as he likes to do, and he does it well. There are so many of his tracks that I would call my favorites, so I’m not sure if saying that means much at this point, but this a good club track, more hip hop than house. What do you think? Psyched for the album yet?

Now I hated the original of this song when it came out. Let me correct myself, I still hate the original of this song. But the White Panda gave his track a slick techno house beat and I kind of liked it. Having DJ’d and danced to it I’m firmly in the “like” camp now. When the annoying repetitive parts of the rap hit, I focus on the instrumental. It’s great. This might not work for some people. But I know that others really like the Pitbull song so this track should please a decent amount of people. What’s not pleasing is the lack of news from the White Panda on when to start expecting full tracks from Pandamonium. However they hinted they’d be in Chicago in two and a half to three weeks which would be awesome because I might be there then too. Anyways, check out the song.

Next I have: one of the best rock songs ever (my uncle says the best) mashed up by one of the best mashup artists who used to haunt the Internet. DJ Earworm took on the Rolling Stones and in my opinion did fairly well by them. Take a listen and tell me what you think.

And since it’s March Mashup Madness, a bonus track! I bet you thought I wasn’t going to post a Brenton Duvall track. Well, gotcha! I’ve liked Sigur Ros for ages and when Jonsi started doing solo work I got on that train. It’s just so happy and hard to understand if he’s using English or not. Well Duvall threw some Jay-Z on top of Jonsi and I just kind of gaped. Really slick, as usual. Enjoy.
